Be Passionate

Be Passionate

Many thanks to @gapingvoid for sharing this cartoon and the following thought,  both of which are worth sharing and sharing again.  @Hugh may be talking about passion in good business, but I don’t think there’s any doubt about the importance of passion in good teaching.

“This was originally done for Stormhoek, the little South African winery that my buddy, Jason Korman, founded.
Passion sounds like a good idea, but why bother?
I saw a quote recently from screenwriter, Joss Whedon, which stirs up a certain deep understanding about it:
“Passion, it lies in all of us, sleeping… waiting… and though unwanted… unbidden… it will stir… open its jaws and howl. It speaks to us… guides us… passion rules us all, and we obey. What other choice do we have? Passion is the source of our finest moments. The joy of love… the clarity of hatred… and the ecstasy of grief. It hurts sometimes more than we can bear. If we could live without passion maybe we’d know some kind of peace… but we would be hollow… Empty rooms shuttered and dank. Without passion we’d be truly dead.”
In business, passions are what make the difference. Our need to tinker, develop, perfect, is born more out of soulfulness and passion, then just a need to ‘get it right’.
When we lose our passion or choose to do something that we have no passion for, we just show up just to
get the pay check, we are dishonest to ourselves, and we give away a right we have to be extraordinary. We give up the opportunity to live a more enlightened life.
This is for all those people around us who live with passion: in love, family, work. In their hobbies and their religion. Think how amazing life could be if you could find passion in everything that you do. ”      the art of Hugh MacLeod
